Former Hokkaido Government Building

Known in Hokkaido as "Akarenga" or "Red Bricks" from which the building is built. Lit up at night, the building is a beautiful sight to see.

Historical Village of Hokkaido

This outdoor museum was built on the 100th anniversary of the foundation of Hokkaido. The village recreates the industries, lifestyles and cultures of Hokkaido's frontier period in three chronological periods: Meiji, Taisho and early Showa eras.

Hokkaido University

Opened as the Sapporo Agricultural College in 1876. The historical buildings together with the elm and gingko trees attract the attention of many tourists. Located on the left of the University's main entrance is the "Elm Forest" information center where you can obtain a map of the campus and enjoy a pleasant walk through the university grounds.

Sapporo Hitsujigaoka Observation Hill

A statue of Dr. Clark, famous for the phrase, "Boys be ambitious!" stands atop Sapporo Hitsujigaoka Observation Hill. The sight is recognized nationally for its panoramic views of downtown Sapporo and its pastoral views of grazing sheep.

Mt. Moiwa and the Moiwayama Ropeway

With an elevation of 531m, Mt. Moiwa is positioned pretty much in the center of Sapporo. From the peak, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Sapporo's cityscape, Ishikari Bay and the Shokanbetsudake Mountains.

Moerenuma Park

Moerenuma Park is a sculpture work designed by sculpture artist Isamu Noguchi. The park was reborn from a waste disposal site, transformed over a 23-year period into an art park that represents Sapporo. The grand scale of this project earned it the name "landscape sculpture" and the visitors can enjoy a different expression of the park depending on the time of the day and season.

Maruyama Zoo

Opened as the 10th largest zoo in Japan in 1951. Its origin stems from Sapporo City hosting a travelling zoo for Tokyo's Ueno Zoo. The zoo raises and exhibits mammals, birds and reptiles. Within its premises is the "Forest of the Zoo", an area of approximately 2ha. The Maruyama Zoo is one of the most nature-oriented zoos in Japan.

Sapporo Beer Museum/Sapporo Beer Garden

Enjoy a premium tour where you can sample “Fukkoku Sapporo Bakushu”, a unique beer brewed according to the methods used back in 1881. Having the chance to discover the passion that the Japanese forefathers of beer put into their work makes the end product taste that much better. At the beer garden next door, located in a red brick building that once served as a former sugar mill and malt factory, you can savor draft beer together with a specialty dish called Genghis Khan (Mongolian barbecue).

Nijo Fish Market

The Nijo Market is said to have developed in the early Meiji Period, when fishermen from Ishikari Bay started selling fresh fish at the location. Along the opposite bank of the Sosei River, the row of fish markets ran from Nishi 1-chome to Higashi 2-chome. Gradually, noodle shops, Japanese taverns and greengrocers were opened in the area, laying the foundations for today's Nijo Market. To this day, the market serves the culinary needs of local residents.

Sapporo Olympic Museum

The museum is located at the foot of the Okurayama Ski Jump Stadium which overlooks downtown Sapporo. Its collection includes valuable materials related to the 1972 Sapporo Winter Olympic Games. On display are the various equipment of the athletes who participated in successive Olympic Winter Games as well as medals and photos of the various events.
